The Cleveland Browns added a pair of players to their roster in the seventh round of the 2013 NFL Draft.

With the 217th pick, the Browns selected a pass rusher from East Central Oklahoma by the name of Armonty Bryant.  At 6’4″ tall, 263 lbs., Bryant is going to need to add some weight if the plan is for him to play 5-technique (defensive end) in the Browns’ 3-4 defense.  With 35 3/4″ arms, Bryant has prototypical length for a 5-technique.  In only eight games during the 2012 season, Bryant produced 54 tackles, 17.5 tackles for a loss, 10.5 sacks, four forced fumbles, and two blocked kicks.  Bryant’s most impressive stat is that he blocked nine kicks throughout his college career.  I would expect Armonty Bryant to bring depth as a pass rusher and value on special teams early on for the Browns.

Random note on Armonty Bryant: It has been reported by multiple media outlets that Bryant was arrested in October for selling marijuana to an undercover police officer during a football practice.

With the 227th pick, the Browns selected an offensive lineman from Chadron State in Garrett Gilkey.  Gilkey enjoyed a dominant college career while playing left tackle.  He ultimately earned an invite to the Senior Bowl due to his performance.  Gilkey has good enough feet to transition to offensive guard and he is very strong at the point of attack.  He is a nasty run blocker that consistently blocks through the whistle.  At 6’6″ tall, 318 lbs., Gilkey has excellent size for a guard and may be able to add depth at right tackle position.  Expect Gilkey to compete for a starting job at one of the two offensive guard positions early on.

Random Note on Garrett Gilkey: Gilkey played on Chadron State’s basketball team during his sophomore year of college.  He played in six games, scored four points, grabbed four rebounds, and committed eight fouls in 16 minutes
